Only a fifth of Russian tourists are happy to meet their compatriots when traveling abroad, according to a study conducted by the international travel portal Momondo.
Experts from the popular service surveyed more than 26,000 people from 26 countries around the world The aim of the study was to identify the most sociable travelers in relation to their compatriots. According to the study, almost half of Russian tourists have a neutral attitude toward other Russians abroad. At the same time, our travelers avoid initiating conversations. About 11% Russians prefer not to interact with their fellow citizens at all while on vacation.
Of these, 6% simply don't want to bother talking to strangers, 3% communicate only with locals, and the rest switch to another language or lower their voices with their fellow travelers so that Russian tourists don't recognize them as "one of their own." Only 18% of our tourists are happy to meet and start a conversation. Another 13% aren't ready to start a conversation, but always smile instead.
As it turns out, a tourist's age significantly influences how talkative they are. For example, 22% Russians aged 56 to 65 are most likely to initiate conversations. Younger tourists under 22 tend to avoid contact. Interestingly, tourists who are open to dialogue are more likely to fall into resort romances. The study found that 83% of those who have experienced at least one romantic relationship while on vacation are willing to start a conversation with another Russian while traveling.
Indians were named the most sociable tourists. More than 401,000 travelers from this country were willing to strike up a conversation with their fellow countrymen. Finnish tourists were the least likely to initiate conversations with fellow travelers while traveling, with only 91,000 travelers.
