
A full-blown merchant fair will be held in the Yaroslavl region this weekend, according to the official website of the Rybinsk administration.
On Saturday, October 27, the annual autumn festival "Rybinsk Merchant" will take place in the city of Rybinsk in the Yaroslavl region. According to the organizers, the festival aims to combine history and modernity. That's why it's held in the format of an old fair, featuring Russian treats, folk entertainment, and folk music. The festival aims to continue the traditions of merchant trade fairs that were held in Rybinsk back in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The main event venue will be located on the city's Red Square. Visitors will enjoy a varied entertainment program. Actors will present scenes from merchant life in bygone centuries and perform gypsy songs. Other entertainment includes tastings of traditional Russian dishes, merchant treats, and tea with pancakes, chair races, an exhibition of handicrafts, folk games, and a lottery. The fair will also feature the "Merchant Chic" festival, where guests can browse stalls selling baked goods, souvenirs, pottery, and much more.
In addition to Red Square, entertainment events will take place at the Observation Deck near the monument to L.I. Oshanin, and on Stoyalaya and Krestovaya Streets. The Rybinsk State Museum-Reserve will also serve as a separate venue for the fair, offering tours on the history of merchants. The official launch of the "Rybinsk Merchant" program at the main venue is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
Rybinsk is the second largest city in the Yaroslavl region. You can get there from Moscow by train. Tickets start at 1,287 rubles. Buses also run from Moscow to Rybinsk. A ride costs around 1,000 rubles. Buses depart from the VDNKh bus station.
