In Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, tourists will be able to take free tours of one of Russia's largest metallurgical plants, according to the Ural-Press news agency.
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, which is part of Recently incorporated into an industrial tourism cluster, the plant is opening its doors for free tours. A visit to the plant begins at its museum, where guests are introduced to the development of metallurgical technologies and the plant's history. During the tour, visitors learn about the operation of a coal-fired excavator, modern rolling mills, galvanizing and polymer coating units. Guides also demonstrate that the mountain is truly magnetic, demonstrating how paper clips, nails, and other metal objects are attracted to a piece of ore stored in the museum.
The second part of the tour includes a visit to the industrial sites. Tourists, wearing safety gear, are transported by bus to the renovated Blast Furnace No. 6, where they will be treated to the sight of molten iron pouring. The tour then continues through the "2000" cold rolling mill complex. The tour also includes a visit to the First Tent Monument and a talk about the secrets of Magnitnaya Mountain.
According to Nadezhda Khalitova, lead engineer at the metallurgical plant's scientific and technical center, the tours will be free—that's the plant's management's position. The program has already been tested by representatives of local travel agencies and hoteliers.
