Authorities on the island of Capri will restrict tourists' freedom of movement.

Authorities on the Italian island of Capri intend to restrict the free movement of tourists. This announcement was made by the resort's mayor, Gianni De Martino, according to The Sun.

According to the head of the island, separate routes are planned for tourists, which will allow them to avoid crossing paths with by the local population. In addition, turnstiles may be installed around famous landmarks.

The reason for the restrictions being introduced on Capri is the significant increase in tourist traffic. The island, which is only 10 square kilometers in size, is visited by over 2 million people annually. Most arrive on cruise ships and as part of day trips from Naples.

The island of Capri is located in the Italian region of Campania. Capri is famous for its wild, rocky landscapes and stunning coastline. It also boasts its own distinct cuisine, distinct from classic Italian fare, and excellent shopping. The island's main attractions are the Faraglioni rocks in the Bay of Marina Piccola, Piazza Umberto in the center of Capri town, and the Grotto Azzurra sea caves.

As TURIZM.RU previously reported, at the end of April, Venice authorities installed turnstiles near the Constitution Bridge and Santa Lucia Station. They plan to use them to limit the number of tourists arriving daily.
