This coming Friday, August 10, the Frankfurt Apple Festival will begin in Frankfurt, Germany, according to the city's tourism portal.
Apple wine, or Apfelwein, has been made in the state of Hesse, where Frankfurt is located, for hundreds of years. And every year, locals and visitors People gather in the capital to pay tribute to this wonderful and light drink. The festival program includes traditional entertainment—singing, dancing, musical performances, and much more. At the numerous stands and stalls set up at the Roßmarkt, you can taste a variety of excellent apple wines.
Apfelwein is typically made from table or culinary apple varieties. However, recently, producers have increasingly been using blends of other varieties to add new accents and flavors to the drink. Apple cocktails are no less popular than classic cider. Festival attendees will also be able to find related merchandise at the Rossmarkt, such as the typical ribbed "apple" glass and the famous gray clay jugs with the "bembel" pattern in which the drink is typically served.
The festival will run all next week until Sunday, August 19th. The venue is open from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
Rossmarkt is located in the city center. You can reach the square by metro or train. The nearest station for both modes of transport is Hauptwache.
