Foreign Ministry warns of possible detentions in the US

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a warning to Russian citizens about the threat of possible detentions and arrests at the request of US law enforcement agencies and special services in third countries.

According to the agency, the number of such cases has reached four dozen. In 2017 alone, more than ten Russian citizens were arrested abroad at the request of Washington. In particular, the arrests took place in Spain, Canada and Greece.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that there have also been recorded cases of abduction of our compatriots with their subsequent extradition to American territory.

The foreign missions of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are in touch and, if necessary, are ready to provide Russians with comprehensive consular and legal assistance, ensuring that their legal rights and interests are respected, as well as their speedy return to their homeland.

Rostourism calls on tour operators to notify tourists about the existing risks of detention at the request of law enforcement agencies and US intelligence services in third countries.

The Federal Tourism Agency recommends that Russian citizens take this information into account when planning trips abroad, in particular to countries that have extradition agreements with Washington. The list of such countries is posted on the US State Department website.
