Tourists will no longer have their passports stamped upon entry into the EU

In 2022, Schengen visa holders, including tourists from Russia, will no longer have entry and exit stamps manually placed in their passports, the relevant department of the European Commission told RIA Novosti.

As noted by the European Commission, the electronic system The EU border crossing registration system will help reduce border control times, improve quality and make travel information easier for law enforcement agencies to access.

The EU electronic border crossing registration system is a device that requires scanning the title page (with a photo) of a biometric passport, then the person passes through an automatic gate and a photo is taken. The computer then compares the parameters with the database and only then is entry or exit permitted.

It should be noted that currently citizens of the EU, the European Economic Community, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand can cross the border automatically. Stamps in the passport are only given to citizens of third countries arriving in Schengen countries with a visa.
