Tourists warned about scammers issuing visas to Sri Lanka

The Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry has warned tourists about the increasing incidence of fraud in visa applications Sri Lanka.

“We would like to draw your attention to the increasing number of cases of fraudsters using unofficial websites to obtain visas for entry "Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visas for tourists to Sri Lanka and significantly increased fees," the department said in a statement on Facebook.

It also notes that tourists are advised to use the state Internet resource www.eta.gov.lk to obtain entry documents.

Let us add that in July 2019, the Sri Lankan government decided to issue free visas to tourists from 45 countries, including Russia. The Sri Lankan authorities were forced to take such measures due to the decrease in tourist flow to the country in connection with a series of terrorist attacks that occurred in April of this year.

Recall that on April 21, a series of terrorist attacks occurred in hotels and churches in Sri Lanka. According to the latest data, 321 people were killed and about 500 were injured to varying degrees. Among the dead were citizens of Great Britain, Pakistan, Japan, the USA, Turkey, Denmark, Morocco, India, Bangladesh, China and the Netherlands. According to the Russian Embassy, there were no Russians among the dead or injured.
