Selfies banned on Goa beaches

The Indian state of Goa has designated 24 beach areas where a selfie ban has been implemented. The decision was made after several tourists were knocked off their feet by a wave and drowned while taking photos.

According to RIA Novosti, signs have been installed in these areas informing about the ban, a toll-free emergency phone number, and a list of what is and is not allowed in Goa.

The monsoon season is currently in full swing on the Goa coast. During this time, entering the sea is unsafe, so tourists should pay attention to the color of the flags displayed on the beach. Most Goa beaches display red flags during the monsoon season.

According to media reports, India leads the world in the number of victims of the modern selfie habit. Specifically, the Washington Post reported that of the 27 selfie-related deaths recorded in 2015, almost half occurred in India.
