Study: Demand for New Year's Tours Falls by 30%

The share of tourists who bought New Year tours by early booking is 30% lower than a year earlier. This is the conclusion reached by Tutu.ru specialists who analyzed all tours purchased before the end of November with vacation dates during the New Year holidays (from December 25, 2018 to December 8, 2018). As the company told the TRN portal, prices for trips abroad increased by 17%, while the cost of a holiday in Russia decreased by 27%.

In turn, the top ten most popular countries where tour lovers will spend these New Year holidays, according to Tutu.ru, include Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, the UAE, Cyprus, the Dominican Republic, India, the Czech Republic, Spain and Turkey. In the past, the top three were: Russia, India and the Czech Republic. Thailand was in 11th place. Phuket, always popular in tours, has seriously improved its position among independent tourists (demand for air tickets has more than doubled).

In addition to Thailand, demand for tours to Cyprus, Spain and Turkey has grown during these New Year holidays. Last year, they were not among the top 10 most popular countries for those flying on package holidays.

Only tours within Russia became cheaper. Foreign destinations that made it into the top five increased in price by at least 20%.

As for independent travelers, according to Tutu.ru, in this segment, demand for travel during the New Year holidays this year has grown by an average of 7.5%. At the same time, demand for Russian destinations has increased by almost 9%, and for foreign destinations by 5.5%.

The most popular Russian cities for celebrating the New Year (with departure from Moscow): Sochi, Simferopol, Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg, Mineralnye Vody, Ufa, Rostov-on-Don and Novosibirsk.

The top five most popular countries for New Year's Eve (early booking): Uzbekistan, Armenia, Czech Republic, Moldova, Germany. Last year at the same time the most popular were: Moldova, Georgia, Germany, Czech Republic, Spain.

Prices for air tickets within Russia have increased by an average of 6% over the year — from 13 to 14 thousand rubles for a roundtrip ticket. International flights have increased by 5%, from 26.2 thousand to 27.4 thousand rubles.
