The Hermitage took 15th place in the list of the best museums in the world

The best museums in the world in 2018 were determined as part of the annual Travelers Choice Awards, organized by the popular travel resource TripAdvisor. The prestigious rating is compiled taking into account the reviews of the portal's users over the past twelve months. The State Hermitage Museum, located in St. Petersburg, entered the top 25 best museums, taking 15th place on this list.

According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, tourists who have visited the Hermitage have left more than 22.5 thousand reviews to date, half of which are in foreign languages. Travelers value the Hermitage for its "incredible architecture and stunning works of art," the scale of its collection, and the diversity of styles and eras represented.

The best museum in the world was named the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, second place in the ranking was taken by the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York, created on the site of the destroyed twin towers, and third place was taken by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The British Museum in London and the Prado National Museum in Madrid also made it into the top five. Places six through ten were taken by the Acropolis in Athens, the Louvre in Paris, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, and the War Remnants Museum in Vietnam.

In addition to the State Hermitage, the top 25 included the National Gallery in London, the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Egyptian Museum in Turin, the Museum of New Zealand in Wellington, the Larco Museum in Peru, and others.

In addition, the State Hermitage Museum took 10th place in the list of the best museums in Europe, and also became the undisputed leader among Russian museums.
