
A special commission has approved a schedule for rescheduling holidays in 2019. Russians will be able to take almost a month off thanks to the red-letter days on the calendar, according to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Labor.
Russian Tripartite Commission for the Regulation of Social and Labor Relations, in A group comprising representatives of the government, employers, and trade unions approved the Ministry of Labor's draft plan for rescheduling holidays next year. According to the draft government resolution, the upcoming New Year holidays will last from December 30, 2018, to January 8, 2019.
The holidays of January 5 and 6 will be moved to May 2 and 3 (Thursday and Friday). Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23 falls on a Saturday next year, so it will be moved to Friday, May 10. Therefore, the May holidays will last from May 1 to 5 and from May 9 to 12.
Russians will also have three days off—from March 8 to 10 and November 2 to 4. Another holiday will fall on Wednesday, June 12. In total, 26 holidays will be available in 2019. The Russian Ministry of Labor noted that the main purpose of these holiday changes is to ensure that Russians use their weekends and non-working holidays efficiently.
Russians should start planning their travel trips for the New Year and May holidays now. Popular New Year's destinations include Italy, Austria, Thailand, the Indian state of Goa, and Dubai. For a mini-vacation during the May holidays, consider heading to the beach resorts of Turkey, Greece, or Cyprus. May is also a great time for a short trip to France, Portugal, the Czech Republic, or Spain.
