AirBaltic introduces baggage-free fares on Riga-Moscow routes

AirBaltic introduced a baggage-free fare on the Riga-Moscow route on April 4. Previously, the company only offered baggage-free fares from Moscow on connecting flights via Riga to other countries, according to a Travel.ru correspondent.

Direct Moscow-Riga flights were excluded from the baggage-free fare program due to a codeshare agreement with Aeroflot, which operates on the same route. Now that the Russian carrier has itself begun moving toward baggage-free tickets, airBaltic has found it possible to introduce them on the Moscow route.

airBaltic's minimum one-way baggage-free fare on the Moscow-Riga route, called Basic, is €99 as of April 4 and includes nothing but 8 kilograms of carry-on baggage (an additional 4 kilograms can be purchased for €9). Adding baggage to the baggage-free fare costs €30 online and €60 at the airport. Check-in is required online (check-in at the airport costs €35), and seat selection starts at €7.

The next fare level (Premium) is 40 euros more expensive and includes one piece of baggage up to 20 kilograms. It also includes free seat selection, free airport check-in, and the ability to cancel or change your ticket, subject to applicable fees and surcharges.

airBaltic plans to introduce baggage-free fares on the Riga-Kazan route. Baggage-free fares have already been introduced on all other airBaltic routes, including some Russian routes to St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, and Sochi.
