In the summer of 2019, Russian airline Azur Air plans to begin flights from China to Ulyanovsk. Ulyanovsk Region Governor Sergei Morozov announced this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The airline is tentatively planning to begin operations scheduled flights in the summer of 2019. The carrier is currently resolving organizational issues," he said.
The governor also noted that the region is working on airport handling requirements and is negotiating with major federal tour operators to include the region in programs for Chinese tourists. According to Morozov, the opening of direct flights between Ulyanovsk and the provinces of China will allow the region to welcome approximately 200 tourists weekly, or 10,000 people annually.
