Ingosstrakh responded to accusations of non-payment for terrorist attack in Egypt

A petition has been published on Change.org, claiming that the insurance company is delaying payments to the relatives of victims of the terrorist attack in Egypt. The petition is addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Central Bank Chairwoman Elvira Nabiullina.

As a reminder, on October 31, 2015, a terrorist attack over the Sinai Peninsula resulted in the crash of a Russian airline, Kogalymavia, carrying tourists from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. All 224 people on board were killed.

In turn, the author of the petition, signed as Alexey Ruban, claims that the insurance company Ingosstrakh has not paid adequate insurance compensation to the relatives of the Sinai tragedy for three years.

"Instead of paying the required two million rubles for each deceased, the insurer presented the relatives of the deceased with a list of 17 unnecessary, yet difficult-to-obtain, certificates confirming their rights to insurance compensation," the statement reads.

The author also claims that Ingosstrakh successfully sued to reduce its insurance payment obligations to the victims' relatives to 32 million rubles. "Instead of automatically paying the required insurance for each person killed in the accident, the company spent three years trying to reduce its payments at least 14 times," Alexey Ruban angrily reports.

Meanwhile, Ingosstrakh told TRN that the insurer had fulfilled all its obligations to pay the families of the victims, but some were dissatisfied with the amount of the payments and had filed a lawsuit.
