London's Gatwick Airport has announced it will invest £1.15 billion (€1.26 billion) in its development over the next five years, with €240 million planned for 2017-18 alone, ACI EUROPE reports.
In the near future, the airport plans to spend money on improving the efficiency of their services, increasing passenger traffic and creating new convenient services for passengers.
The 2017 capital construction investment program includes: the creation of a new hangar in cooperation with Boeing, an increase in the level of service in the boarding gate area, and the construction of a new internal passage to the South Terminal.
Raymond Meli (Raymond Melee), Director of Construction at Gatwick Airport: “We will continue to develop the airport to meet the needs of our airlines and passengers. This includes improving the airport experience and our terminals. As we plan to grow from 45 million to 50 million passengers a year, we will focus on efficiency and service to ensure passengers continue to use the airport. These projects will be delivered in a way that will ensure we can meet our ambition to become the UK’s most successful airport.”
The airport plans to significantly increase passenger traffic, increase the share of the world's largest aircraft, expand its long-haul route network and increase traffic during the winter months.
It is expected that £2.7 billion (€3 billion) will be invested in upgrading the UK capital's second-largest airport by 2022.
