Little snow: Rosa Khutor resort limits ski pass sales

Starting December 30, the Rosa Khutor resort limited ski pass sales due to insufficient snow cover on the slopes. A corresponding notice was published on the resort's website.

“Rosa Khutor Resort has the largest ski area in Russia – over "100 kilometers of slopes. However, on New Year's Eve, almost the entire European part of the country, including the Caucasus region, experienced unusually warm weather for this time of year. Snow on the mountain slopes was scarce, and snowmaking capacity was limited due to high temperatures. Nevertheless, today, 22 kilometers of slopes are open for skiing at Rosa Khutor," the statement reads.

It also notes that the resort is forced to take temporary measures regarding ski pass sales. Starting December 30 and until weather conditions improve, ski passes will be sold not at ticket offices, but at the resort's hotels, and only guests staying at those hotels will be able to purchase them. If you purchased a ski pass in advance, it will, of course, still work.

"Furthermore, every evening at 6:00 PM, after the resort closes, we will make a certain number of one-day ski passes available for sale on the resort's website for the following day. This will depend on the condition of the slopes at the end of the skiing day and the weather forecast for the following day. Ski passes purchased online will be collected at the Strela ski lift ticket offices. Walking passes will be sold without restrictions at the resort ticket offices," Rosa Khutor emphasized, adding that the weather forecast for the coming days is favorable, including temperatures suitable for the snowmaking machines.

"This gives us hope that we will be able to open more slopes for skiing in the very near future and that all restrictions will be lifted," the resort said in a statement.
