An agreement on aviation security has been prepared between Russia and Egypt.

An agreement on aviation safety between Russia and Egypt has been drafted, and the Russian side is awaiting the Egyptian side's signature, TASS reported, citing Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

“We initially said that it should "There must be an agreement that addresses security issues. It has been prepared. I understand that the Egyptian side is ready to sign it, otherwise [the discussion] would not have resumed," he said.

Earlier, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov stated that regular air travel between Moscow and Cairo could begin in mid-February.

On January 4, 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree resuming regular air travel to Cairo.

Russia suspended air travel to Egypt in the fall of 2015 following the crash of a Kogalymavia plane over Sinai, flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. There were 217 Russian tourists and seven crew members on board, all of whom died. The FSB subsequently classified the incident as a terrorist attack.

To resume air traffic, Russia demanded that Egypt strengthen aviation security measures.
