According to the Russian Foreign Ministry's Situation and Crisis Center, the Maldivian parliament approved the extension of the state of emergency in the country, introduced on February 5 by the President of the Republic of Maldives, for another 30 days.
A state of emergency was declared in connection with with the political crisis following the Supreme Court's decision to release a number of opposition political leaders from prison and the spread of information about the possible impeachment of the head of state, Abdullah Yasmin.
Rostourism recommends that Russian tourists weigh the need to travel to the Maldives, and that tourists already in the country avoid visiting the capital city of Male if possible.
The Federal Tourism Agency also calls on tour operators selling tours to the Maldives to inform their clients about the situation in the country.
