Fountain season begins in St. Petersburg

Today, April 19, fountains began turning on in St. Petersburg. The fountain in Novo-Manezhny Square was the first to open, followed by the "Ball" fountain on Nevsky Prospekt and the fountain near Kazan Cathedral.

According to the press service of the State Unitary Enterprise "Vodokanal of Saint Petersburg," six fountains will open their season on April 20: on the Eastern and Western Rays in the Park of the 300th Anniversary of Saint Petersburg, a fountain on 3-ya Krasnoarmeyskaya Street, on the Fontanka River embankment near building 30, on Liteiny Prospekt near building 57, and in Aleksandrovsky Park.

On April 21, the fountains in the square near the Winter Palace, in the Alexander Garden near the Admiralty, and two fountains in the pedestrian area on 7th Line of Vasilievsky Island are scheduled to open. The Mayak fountain in the Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg will also open on the same day.

During April, fountains will be opened in Smolny, Nikolsky, Tavrichesky, and Vvedensky Gardens, as well as the fountain at the Nakhimov Naval School on Petrovskaya Embankment, the fountain at the Yubileiny Sports Palace, the fountain on Rumyantsevskaya Square, the drinking fountain on Sennaya Square, and several others.

On May 1, the fountains in Kronstadt, the fountain near the Russian National Library, and the Swan Lake fountain on Petrogradskaya Storona will open. On May 9, as per tradition, the large fountain and music complexes on Moskovskaya Square and Lenin Square in front of Finland Station will begin their season.

A total of 52 fountains and four fountain complexes will be operational during the 2018 season. The remaining 53 fountains, managed by Vodokanal, require reconstruction or major repairs.
