In July, Russian tourists ranked first in Georgia for the first time in 12 years. In just the first seven months of 2018, more than 890,000 Russians visited Georgia, according to Tourprom.
Thus, in July the number of tourists from Russia increased by 12.8% compared to July of last year. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that Russian tourists reached 247,200 people. This marked a 12-year high for Russian tourists, taking first place. In terms of overall tourist flow, Russia shares first place with Azerbaijan, with an increase of 22.91% (3.5%).
However, tourists note that there are also problems, primarily for those traveling on their own. First and foremost, there's a huge queue at the Verkhniy Laz border crossing, caused entirely by Russian customs. Tourists are forced to wait in the "general queue"—there's no "green corridor" for either Russian citizens or tourists.
