The final cycling race of the season, the Gorky Gorod Bike Park, took place yesterday. The competition lasted three days, and for the first time, a new "black" track was available to participants, which determined the core of the athletes—professionals and masters of sports. downhill. However, Gorki Bike Park will remain open until November 7, 2017.
From October 6–8, 2017, the all-season Gorky Gorod resort gathered athletes and cycling enthusiasts for the final race of the season—the traditional Gorky Downhill Cup 2017. This was the fourth stage of the Mountain Bike School Cup No. 1, which began with a master class from the School's head coaches, Nikolai Pukhir and Igor Shilin.
"This was our traditional autumn cycling race, which attracted over 50 participants from 10 regions of Russia. It was primarily aimed at professionals, of course, because we opened a renovated "black" track—riding on it requires special, serious skills, which almost all the participants demonstrated. After the qualification, it was decided to allow absolutely everyone to advance to the finals. The athletes really liked the new black track; its length has increased by 500 meters, which also increased the length of the "Megalavina" route. The guys finished near the Gorki Panorama Hotel," Gennady Didenko, Head of Operational Services at the Gorki Gorod resort.
In addition, approximately 200 spectators and fans gathered for the competition. The organizers created every opportunity to watch the race on the most spectacular sections of the high-speed tracks, in the rhythm section, where several jumps are located.
The final day of the race concluded with the popular "Megalavina," which took place along the new ski slopes of the Gorki Gorod resort. Competitors experienced the route from the resort's Eastern to Central Sector for the first time. Despite the difficulty and even minor injuries, Gennady Didenko noted that the athletes thoroughly enjoyed the course. This section of the route is scheduled to open the summer cycling season in May 2018.
The end of the summer season doesn't mean the downhill slopes are closed to cyclists. Experts say the weather is now very comfortable for cycling, and the air temperature and trail quality will allow Gorki Bike Park to remain open until November 7, 2017.
