Compared to 2017, last year Russians on the 5% applied for Schengen visas less frequently, according to data posted on the European Commission website.

Last year, the number of applications from Russians for Schengen visas fell to 3.7 million. At the same time, Russia still ranks first in the world in terms of the number of requests.
Moreover, the number of visa applications has decreased in many other countries as well. For example, the number of applications in Ukraine decreased by 731, which is due to the introduction of a visa-free regime for holders of biometric passports. In Turkey, the number of applications decreased by 9.51, and in Algeria, by 8.81.
The agency also notes that the number of Schengen visa applications in China last year amounted to 2.8 million, which is 11.31% more than in 2017. In India, the figures also increased, with the number of applications exceeding 1 million last year (+17.41%). Furthermore, the number of applications is also growing in Morocco (660,000, +7.81%), Saudi Arabia (360,000, +7.61%), Thailand (330,000, +9.31%), and Iran (270,000, +3.31%).
