German bus carrier FlixBus plans to start operating in Russia

The German bus carrier FlixBus will soon begin operating in Russia, with entry into the Russian market scheduled for February 21 of this year.

"The company's entry into the Russian market is scheduled for February 21. The flixbus.ru website that has just been launched is not yet available order a trip around Russia. The service is currently negotiating with carriers and motor transport associations and is recruiting staff for the Moscow office," the statement said, Interfax reports.

Currently, the carrier carries out domestic and international transportation in 28 countries, including Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Poland and the USA.

By the way, the bus company offers carriers in Russia a contract for at least 1.5 years, and it also hopes to receive revenue of 30% from tickets sold through the service. At the same time, the company is ready to sell at least 50% seats on the bus.

“At the same time, a number of large Russian companies have previously refused to cooperate with FlixBus “due to the controversial model,” which could lead to monopolization of the market and the cessation of operations of other carriers,” the carrier noted.

"FlixBus started its development in the German market, which was initially very different from what we have now in Russia. Their business model worked well in Western Europe. But the Russian market is different, for example, in size, a large number of carriers and the traditionally strong influence of bus stations. Most likely, the carrier will have to offer an original local solution," the experts added.
