Strikes in France to result in train and plane cancellations on March 22-23

Another transport strike is expected in France on Thursday, March 22. About half of all train services have been cancelled, as well as a significant number of flights, according to Travel.ru.

The action resulted in the cancellation of at least several hundred flights on March 22, including those using French airspace for international flights. Among them, Aeroflot's 1:05 p.m. flight from Moscow and its 4:15 p.m. return flight from Paris were cancelled.

Meanwhile, national carrier Air France announced its intention to operate all its long-haul and most European flights (but also offered passengers the option to change their flight dates to nearby destinations). Air France's Russian flights are not yet affected, but a separate strike is expected at Air France itself on Friday, March 23. Several other airlines, primarily low-cost ones, have already cancelled several hundred flights, including international flights from the UK to Spain, Germany to Portugal, and others. Passengers traveling through French airports or French airspace on March 22-23 should regularly check the status of their flights.

On rail, the number of cancellations varies from route to route, but on average, approximately 2 in 5 high-speed TGV trains, 1 in 4 fast Intercités de jour, 1 in 2 regional trains, 1 in 3 Paris regional Transilien, 3 in 4 international services are expected to be cancelled.

Disruptions are also expected on suburban lines, including airport lines. Some problems with public transport are likely, although Parisian transport will operate relatively normally.
