Soukhauzskaya, or more correctly Suukauzskaya, 3497 m is a peak in the Rocky Ridge between the valleys of the Bezengi Cherek and the Balkar Cherek (on the map). Like most of the peaks of the Rocky Range, being cuesta, has a steep rocky slope on one (northern) side, and a more gentle slope on the other.
Village of Upper Balkaria, winter. Soukhauzkai rocks in the distance.

A medieval battle tower (Abaev No. 2) and ruins in the old Balkar settlement of Kyunlyum. Soukhazkaya is in the distance.

This panorama shows a series of peaks of the Rocky Ridge. Soukhazkaya is the closest one in the center.

We walk along the ridge with Soukhazkai in the background.

As we get closer, we can see the trail leading from the Chainashka Valley to the Soukhauz Pass.

Even larger. The next photo shows the view from the left peak.

At the summit. Below the clouds is the Upper Balkaria region.

This is the overnight stay before the ascent. Winter, 3000 meters, gorgeous!

More from that climb. Man and the Mountain. Why do we climb mountains? A million answers, and this photo is one of them…
