Finnair will force light passengers to fork out more

Finnair has introduced a new baggage-free fare for flights from Russia to Europe, according to Aviaport.

The Finnish carrier has launched a new Light fare on its Russian routes. By purchasing an economy class ticket at this fare, passengers will be able to Only carry-on baggage is allowed on board free of charge. Baggage allowance is not included in the price of this ticket. The passenger's carry-on baggage must not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm in dimensions. One personal item that fits comfortably under the seat in front and is no larger than 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm is also free of charge. This could be, for example, a handbag, backpack, or compact laptop bag. The total weight of carry-on baggage must not exceed 8 kg.

The Light fare will be available on flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara, and Kazan, as well as from Astana and Minsk. Finnair representatives note that the new service will appeal to passengers who prefer to travel light. However, the downsides of the new fare are obvious and obvious. First and foremost, of course, is the cost. The price of a Light ticket is approximately the same as a standard ticket with baggage, which was previously available. Currently, a roundtrip flight from Moscow to Helsinki costs at least 9,247 rubles. A flight with baggage will cost a third more – 12,847 rubles. Interestingly, a similar Aeroflot flight starts at 10,233 rubles roundtrip. This price, incidentally, includes 23 kg of baggage.

An 8 kg carry-on baggage allowance is unlikely to be acceptable for most travelers, so they will have to purchase tickets with a baggage allowance or pay an additional fee. It appears that the Finnish airline has simply increased the cost of air travel for Russians.
