Where do people who work remotely prefer to live?

Travel portal Gap Year Escape has named the most popular destinations for people who choose remote corners of the world with Wi-Fi access instead of traditional offices.

Usually, when people travel, immediately after arrival they try to get to the hotel, then visit iconic landmarks, and somewhere to eat along the way. However, people who work remotely, and therefore can afford to live anywhere, are quite different. They choose their destination based on a variety of factors, such as Wi-Fi speed, cost of living, local lifestyle, and weather.

The most popular "home office" destination was Bali, attracting visitors with its bright sunshine, surfing opportunities, yoga, and low cost of living. London, Chiang Mai (Thailand), Lisbon, Barcelona, New York, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Paris, and Berlin also made the top 10. Europe was named the most popular continent for those who combine work and travel, accounting for almost half of all remote workers.

As GapYearEscape representatives noted, the number of people working remotely and living in various parts of the world is growing. This is driven by improving internet connections and technology, as well as a growing desire to live their own lives, even with their laptops, without being tied to a single office.

The list was compiled based on more than tens of thousands of images on the popular Instagram network, tagged with the hashtag #digitalnomad.
