
The 2018 tourist season on the Greek island of Rhodes promises to be the best in its history, according to the portal "Russian Athens."
According to Fraport Greece, the company that manages 14 regional Greek airports, tourist traffic to Rhodes in the first nine months of 2018 increased by 7.91% in 2019. While last year's tourist numbers for this period were 3.9 million, this year's figure has already reached 4.2 million. Including Greek tourists, passenger traffic from January to September approached 5 million.
In September, 402,000 tourists visited Greece's fourth-largest island. This is 9.21% more than in the same period in 2017. The UK led the way in terms of visits in the first month of autumn, followed by Germans, Swedes, Israelis, and Poles. Russian tourists were the sixth-largest group to visit Rhodes.
According to Greek tourism experts, 2018 will break the record for the highest tourist flow in the history of Rhodes.
The island of Rhodes is located in southeastern Greece and is washed by the Cretan and Libyan seas. It is renowned for its natural beauty, archaeological sites, and history. For this reason, Rhodes is often called the "Pearl of the Mediterranean." Popular attractions include the Old Town of Rhodes, which boasts ancient houses, palaces, a church, and the longest fortress in Europe; the ruins of Kamiros; the Tsambika Monastery; the snow-white ancient city of Lindos; and the picturesque Anthony Quinn Bay.
