Taxi drivers will be held accountable for damaged luggage and clothing.

Taxi drivers will be held liable for damage to passengers' luggage and clothing, according to the Vesti.Ekonomika portal.

The Russian Supreme Court issued a ruling confirming the liability of taxi aggregators to passengers. According to the ruling, Carriers are liable for any harm caused to the life, health, or property of passengers. In the event of a premature termination of a trip, taxi drivers are now required to provide the client with an alternative vehicle within a reasonable time or compensate the cost of travel, baggage, and carry-on baggage proportionate to the distance traveled. Furthermore, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation's ruling stipulates carrier liability for the loss, shortage, or damage of baggage.

Thus, transport companies will be required to compensate for damages if a passenger's suitcase is damaged during a trip, for example, as a result of a traffic accident. This is irrelevant to who caused the accident. Compensation can also be claimed for clothing damaged due to a dirty taxi interior. The existence of force majeure circumstances and other legally stipulated circumstances exempts the carrier from the obligation to compensate for actual damages due to loss, shortage, or damage to baggage, according to the ruling.

If the carrier refuses to voluntarily compensate for the damage, the passenger can seek compensation through the courts. In this case, the taxi company will also have to pay a fine to the injured client, which will increase the compensation amount by approximately 50%.
