Aeroflot continues its crackdown on discounts on its tickets. Starting July 9, it will impose another complete ban on agents offering discounts of any kind, including promo codes and the like, as some agencies commonly do, reports Travel.ru.
This applies to all tickets sold under the SU code for flights operated by Aeroflot and its subsidiaries, including those originating abroad. "The airfare indicated on the itinerary/receipt (fare + taxes and fees) must match the published final price calculated in the GDS in the country of origin, and the currency of the payment transaction must match the currency indicated on the airfare. Agent fees (if any) must be indicated separately on the itinerary/receipt," Aeroflot stated.
As usual, the company threatened to disconnect agents who deviate from this policy: "If instances of discounts being provided on the final cost of transportation (fare + taxes and fees), and/or other violations (in particular, the provision of false information about the final cost of transportation on metasearch resources) are discovered, Aeroflot reserves the right to unilaterally disconnect the validator of the agency that processed the transportation from the airline's resources without prior notice."
As a reminder, Aeroflot launched its war on discounts back in 2014. Back then, the company banned agents from selling tickets at prices lower than Aeroflot's own prices (although some agents began to circumvent this restriction with promo codes and other similar tactics). The company then eliminated agent commissions for most of its ticket sales. This ultimately led to higher prices for tickets sold by agents and encouraged passengers to buy tickets directly on the carrier's website, thereby reducing its distribution costs.
