Dubai Airport is testing "smart tunnels" that will make it easier for passengers to get to their planes.

Emirates Airlines has begun testing the world's first "biometric tunnel" at Dubai International Airport. This innovative system will allow passengers to check in for their flights, complete pre-flight formalities, and board the aircraft. Just walking through the airport, as reported by Planet Biometrics.

Emirates, one of the world's largest carriers, is preparing to launch a special biometric system, shaped like a tunnel and deployed throughout Dubai Airport. Passengers will soon be able to check in for their flights, clear customs, access the Emirates Lounge, and access their seats simply by moving through the airport and passing through the "smart" sections of the tunnel.

The system utilizes the latest biometric technologies that recognize passengers' faces and retinas. This allows passengers to pass through passport control independently, without having to present or manually check their documents. If the system is unable to identify a passenger, the tunnel will signal and automatically block the passage. The biometric platform will also enhance airport security and locate passengers who are late for their flights.

State-of-the-art biometric equipment is currently installed in Dubai Airport's Terminal 3. It is also available at several check-in counters in the Emirates Lounge, in Concourse B for First Class passengers, and at several boarding gates. Following the completion of internal trials, Emirates will begin testing biometrics at other key points throughout the airport—at all check-in counters, in the concourse, and near boarding pass counters. All passenger data will be stored at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai.
