Passengers of the Cypriot airline Cobalt Air, which announced the suspension of its operations the day before, were promised compensation for the costs of re-purchased tickets, Rata news reports.
The carrier Cobalt Air, which operated flights to Moscow from the Cypriot resorts of Paphos and Larnaca, announced the cessation of flights on October 18. As a result, about 150 Russians were deprived of the opportunity to fly home from their vacation on time that day. Several Russian tour operators used the services of the Cypriot airline, including Coral Travel, TUI Russia, Ambotis Holidays and others. There is currently no information on the exact number of Russian tourists whose vacation in Cyprus was spoiled.
Later, the Cyprus Ministry of Transport issued a statement that all affected passengers would be reimbursed for the cost of returning to Russia. Tourists who were supposed to fly out of Cyprus on October 18 must, after purchasing a ticket for a flight with another airline, contact the accounting department of the ministry and provide the relevant document confirming payment.
Vacationers who are scheduled to return to Moscow from October 19 to 26 will be transported by planes of other carriers. For this, Cobalt Air clients are advised to contact the Top Kinisis and Orthodoxou Travel ticket agencies to exchange tickets. Some tour operators have promised to transport tourists at their own expense. TUI representatives have promised to transfer their tourists to Ural Airlines flights. Coral Travel is also looking for alternative options for transporting Russians.
Experts attribute the cessation of Cobalt Air's operations to the activities of Chinese investors who refused to support the Cypriot carrier during the low season. Negotiations with other investors did not yield any results.
