Air travel between Russia and Egypt will not resume in 2017, Izvestia reported on Thursday, August 24.
It is reported that there is currently no confidence in the safety of Egyptian airports in Moscow. Positive changes have only been observed so far in Cairo Airport. However, Russian tourists are unlikely to be able to reach Egyptian resorts anytime soon. The airports in Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh are scheduled to be inspected by September 30. Negotiations are currently underway. However, charter flights to Egypt are unlikely to resume until the end of 2017.
As a reminder, in July, a group of Russian experts completed another inspection of the new terminal at Cairo Airport, from which Russian airlines will operate flights. The experts praised progress on aviation security issues, which had previously raised concerns. According to Izvestia, Cairo Airport is essentially ready to receive Russian passengers. A tentative start date for flights has even been announced: October. However, the final decision on this matter depends on the domestic political situation in Egypt.
