Members of the Egyptian Parliament have addressed the Minister of Tourism Ranju al-Mashat with a question about attracting tourists from Russia to the country. They believe that the work to attract travelers is ineffective. This appeal was prepared by the member of parliament Ibrahim Higyazi.
As RIA Novosti reports, the request notes that air traffic between Moscow and Cairo was opened last year. At that time, local companies offered to transport travelers to Egyptian resorts via Cairo by EgyptAir at discounted prices.
By the way, Ibrahim Higyazi sent a corresponding letter to the Egyptian Tourism Activation Authority, but there was no response. He also notes that last year Egypt was visited by 140,642 tourists from Russia and believes that the incoming tourist flow could have been much higher.
"The bulk of these 140 thousand Russian tourists arrived in Egypt via Istanbul airport by Turkish airlines. I would like to ask the minister why no one responded to Egyptian travel companies' lucrative offer to intensify the flow of tourists from Russia, given its potential. This also concerns issues of national security, given that Turkish airlines are currently transporting Russian tourists to Egyptian resorts via Istanbul airport," Ibrahim Higyazi emphasized in the letter, RIA Novosti reports.
In addition, the former head of the Tourism Activation Authority, Hisham al-Dumeiri, said that the growth of tourist flow is not increasing, including due to the lack of advertising of tourism products on the Russian market.
"Russian tourists want to visit Egypt and have already confirmed this. Despite the ban on flights to resorts, more than 140 thousand tourists from the Russian Federation flew to Egypt last year. But we, of course, are not using the resumption of flights between Moscow and Cairo properly - most tourists fly via Turkey," he said.
