Sharm El Sheikh Airport Terminal Tested After Renovation

The building of the second terminal at Sharm el-Sheikh airport began testing after renovation on November 4. This was reported in a statement by the country's Ministry of Civil Aviation.

“As part of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation’s efforts to enhance competitiveness Egyptian airports and bringing them into full compliance with the most modern international standards, as well as to increase the flow of tourists to the resorts of the Red Sea, the Minister of Civil Aviation Yunis al-Masri took part in the launch of the test operation of the second terminal of the Sharm el-Sheikh airport,” the document says, RIA Novosti reports.

The building was equipped with modern security equipment: 200 CCTV cameras, biometric control of employee access to service areas, air analyzers for detecting explosives and toxic substances, devices for scanning and 3D display of baggage contents. In addition, the airport's baggage service will be able to handle 4,000 pieces of baggage per hour.

It is also noted that after the renovation, the terminal’s capacity will increase from 7 to 9 million tourists per year.

Let us recall that on October 23 in Sochi, as part of the Russia-Africa summit, the heads of the two countries discussed lifting the ban on flights from Russia to Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, but they failed to reach a common denominator.

In addition, Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait reported on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa forum that Egypt loses up to 3 million tourists annually due to the suspension of air traffic with Russia.
