Adria Airways Suspends Flights

Slovenian airline Adria Airways announced a "temporary" suspension of flights for at least two days—September 24 and 25. The carrier intends to operate only two flights during these two days—between Ljubljana and Frankfurt, according to Travel.ru's own correspondent.

Adria Airways has been experiencing financial problems for several years. In recent days, some of the company's aircraft have been recalled by their lessors. Six months ago, the company abandoned flights to Russia after Aeroflot launched its own Moscow-Ljubljana flights.

Tickets for September 26 and subsequent dates are still on sale, but it's unlikely there will be significant demand. Adria Arways is currently offering passengers on cancelled flights transfers to Star Alliance partners, where available. Passengers with tickets for September 26-29 can change their dates without penalty.

Overall, Ljubljana Airport lost more than half of its flights during the flight suspension. If Adria Airways were to cease operations entirely, it would take some time—likely at least until the winter schedule begins on October 27—for Slovenia to regain an acceptable flight supply. Adria Airways also serves some routes to Western Europe from Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
