State Duma: Russia is ready to move toward lifting restrictions on Georgia

Russia is ready to move toward a gradual lifting of restrictions against Georgia. This was announced by Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, following a meeting with representatives of the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, the Georgian parliamentary opposition faction.

"Russia is ready to move in every way possible toward a gradual lifting of restrictions. I know this. I speak with this frequently, including with officials," he said, according to Interfax.

During the dialogue with Georgian representatives, he also noted that the issue of a possible visa waiver was discussed, provided that the Georgian authorities were also ready for this.

He also recalled that the State Duma recently adopted a statement to the Russian government requesting the introduction of special economic measures against Georgia.

"In many ways, this statement meant that if you understand and draw conclusions, we are ready to return to this path of cooperation. I am confident that there should be no other outcome," added Leonid Kalashnikov.

As a reminder, a law banning direct flights between Russia and Georgia came into force on July 8.
