Do Not Disturb Signs Are Disappearing From US Hotels

Several major hotel chains in the United States have done away with the familiar "Do not disturb" signs that guests hang on their door handles if they don't want anyone to enter their room. This stems from the tragic incident last fall in Las Vegas, when the shooter who attacked music festivalgoers and killed dozens of people prepared for the crime in a hotel room, posting a "Do Not Disturb" sign. He then opened fire from the window of his hotel room.

Now, guests are finding a "Room Occupied" sign in their rooms, along with a mandatory disclaimer stating that, for security reasons, hotel staff may enter and inspect the guest's room if the sign is posted on the door for 24 hours or longer. Guests are not very happy with this new rule, with some tourists believing that hotel staff will abuse their right to enter rooms, according to the Telegraph. However, hotel industry experts point out that housekeepers, managers, and security guards have always been able to enter locked rooms if necessary.
