Powerful explosion in central Paris, casualties reported

On Saturday, January 12, a powerful explosion rocked the Rue de Trévise in the French capital, killing, according to the latest reports, four people.

 

 

“A powerful explosion occurred in a building in the ninth arrondissement of Paris; the scene has been cordoned off and emergency services are working "Emergency rescue services; according to preliminary data, a gas leak may have been the cause of the incident," the Russian Foreign Ministry's crisis center said in a statement.

A short time later, the ministry stated that no information had been received about any Russian casualties. "The embassy contacted the Prefecture of Police to confirm whether any Russian citizens were among them. At this time, no information has been received on this matter," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Situation and Crisis Center clarified.

That afternoon, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced that four people had died in the tragic explosion. The victims were two firefighters and two civilians.
