Bulgaria and Romania to join Schengen this year

Bulgaria and Romania may join the Schengen zone in 2019. This statement was made by the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, writes the portal "Russian Bulgaria".

According to A. Tajani, Bulgaria and Romania should be accepted into Schengen by July 2019. Romania's presidency of the EU Council will continue until that time. The President of the European Parliament added that the accession of these countries to other Schengen participants will strengthen Europe's security.

In December 2018, members of the European Parliament approved the entry of Romania and Bulgaria into Schengen. However, this was the fifth such resolution in the last 7 years. Joining the Schengen zone will allow tourists with a Schengen visa to travel freely from Bulgaria and Romania to 26 European countries, including Germany, Greece, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Finland.

Currently, Russians need a local visa to enter Bulgaria. It is issued at a visa center or at the Consulate of the Bulgarian Republic. A national Bulgarian visa also gives the right to enter the territory of Romania, Croatia and Cyprus. A national visa of the country is also required for Russians to visit Romania. Russians can enter Bulgaria and Romania with valid Schengen visas, which allow double or multiple entries.
