The Dominican Republic has been named the best golf destination in Latin America and the Caribbean for the fourth time.

The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has named the Dominican Republic the "Best Golf Destination in Latin America and the Caribbean" for the fourth time.

According to Magali Toribio, Marketing Advisor for the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism, this title is entirely the result of diligent and systematic work aimed at securing the country's leadership in the golf industry.

The Dominican Republic boasts exceptional infrastructure, service, and some of the most impressive golf courses in the world, designed by legendary architects such as Pete Dye, P.B. Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Gary Player, and Tom Fazio.

The country boasts 26 golf courses, 86 with sea views and 39 with oceanfront holes. At least seven of these 26 regularly rank among the top 50 golf courses in the Caribbean and Mexico, according to GolfWeek Magazine. These include Punta Espada Golf Club, Los Corales, LaCana, and the world-famous Teeth of the Dog. Each course offers stunning views and unique hazard systems.

The winning country is determined annually by a vote of members of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), which includes senior executives, tour operators, agents, and journalists. Judges select the best golf destinations based on the diversity of the experience offered to customers and criteria such as customer satisfaction, course and hotel quality, price, supplier professionalism, support for the local tourism industry, and accessibility to the game.

The Senator Puerto Plata Hotel will open its doors in December 2018.

Mark Palfort, Senator Hotels & Resorts' Commercial Director for the South American region, announced that the luxurious 600-room Senator Puerto Plata Spa & Resort, currently undergoing renovations, will open in the Dominican Republic at the end of 2018.

In less than a year, the Senator group completely rebuilt and opened the Playa Bachata Resort (formerly Riu Merengue), adjacent to the Senator Puerto Plata, adding almost 1,000 rooms to the hotel stock on the country's northern coast.

According to Mr. Palfort, the northern capital currently plays a key role in the Dominican Republic's tourism sector, demonstrating truly enormous tourism potential. Senator Group is proud to be part of this, adding two hotels with a combined 1,600 rooms to the region's offerings.

“We are thrilled to welcome this December with the opening of the luxurious Senator Puerto Plata Spa & Resorts, which will undoubtedly become an important component of the hotel offering in the ‘Bride of the Atlantic,’ as Puerto Plata is also known locally,” he added.

The Senator Hotels & Resorts hotel group has over 25 years of experience in the Andalusian tourism sector. Notably, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Plata in particular, became the company's first market outside of Spain, acquiring the Riu complex, comprising the Bachata and Merengue hotels, on the country's northern coast. The investment allocated for the renovation of both properties amounted to approximately $15 million.

Average daily tourist spending in the Dominican Republic is steadily increasing.

According to a report from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, the country recorded an increase in average daily spending by foreign tourists in the third quarter of 2018 compared to data for January-September 2017.

For the period under review in 2017, the figure was 133.4 US dollars with an average tourist stay in the country of 8.6 days, which in turn was higher than the figures for the same period in 2016 – 130.2 US dollars and 8.5 days.

Between January and September 2018, average daily spending by foreign tourists in the Dominican Republic increased to US$136.5, while the average length of stay was 8.4 days (a slight decline of 0.2 points).

Thus, the average daily expenditure indicator has been steadily growing, not falling below the US$130 mark since 2016.

Based on the results for 2017, the average daily expenditure of foreign tourists in the Dominican Republic amounted to 133.5 US dollars, and the average length of stay in the country remained at 8.6 days.

Construction of a large resort complex has begun in Punta Cana.

In Punta Cana, on the beach of Cabeza de Toro, in the presence of the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, the foundation of a new hotel of the Spanish company BestHotels was laid.

The new BestHotels Cabeza de Toro property will have 600 rooms ranging from 60 to 200 square meters and is expected to be operational by October 2019.

The hotel's amenities include four themed restaurants, two buffet restaurants, and six smaller cafes. MICE travelers will appreciate the two-story, 1,000-square-meter conference center, consisting of a large main hall and two smaller ones, each measuring 200 square meters.

A comfortable and spacious two-level theater, designed to accommodate over 500 people, is also planned. Younger visitors will also be catered for, with a separate area offering a variety of entertainment options and the KidsClub and TeensClub.

The BestHotels Cabeza de Toro complex will feature numerous boutiques, shops, and bars. For nightlife enthusiasts, the hotel will offer a club equipped with the most innovative technology and a 1,350-square-meter casino.

The 60-square-meter standard rooms, located on the ground floor and offering direct access to the swim-up pool from the terrace, deserve special attention. A neutral color palette and warm decor guarantee maximum comfort for future guests.
