Barcelona's beaches will be cleared of excess sun loungers and umbrellas.

Barcelona City Hall is taking new measures to improve the quality of life for residents and tourists. They have decided to reduce the number of snack bars on the city's beaches, as well as remove "unnecessary" sun loungers and parasols to free up space.

According to Spain in Russian, this will relieve pressure on the most popular beaches—Barceloneta, Somorrostro, Sant Sebastià, and Nova Icaria. The number of parasols is expected to be reduced by 75% (to 575), the number of sun loungers will be halved (to 1,150), and snack bars will be reduced by a quarter—to just 15.

In addition, from June 1, all beach cafes in Barcelona will be required to sell drinks to customers in reusable cups to prevent littering of the beach area.
