Rospotrebnadzor, citing data from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), reports that 28 cases of salmonella have been reported in 20 US states. Acute intestinal infection has been reported in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, North Dakota, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah.

An epidemiological investigation revealed that the disease was caused by the use of Kratom, a drug contaminated with salmonella, which is sold in pharmacies and banned in several US states.
Rospotrebnadzor also recalls nearly 100 salmonella cases in February in Iowa and Minnesota. According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Bureau, the illnesses were caused by salmonella contamination of chicken salad. The contaminated product was sold by Fareway Stores Inc. in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
The Federal Tourism Agency recommends that Russian citizens currently in the United States or planning trips to the country take this information into account. Rostourism also calls on tour operators offering tours to the United States to inform tourists about salmonella outbreaks in the United States.
