Mexico. Guadalajara - Tequila

Guadalajara - Tequila

Guadalajara is the cultural capital of Mexico and the second most populous city in the country.
It is known as the "Pearl of the West" and the "City of Roses".

Guadalajara is easily described by three photographs:

The last photo shows the legendary Beetle parked. Mexico has a huge number of Beetles and pickup trucks; it seems like the entire country drives these two vehicles.

While the abundance of pickups can be explained by the country's agricultural nature, the popularity of the Beetle is due to the Volkswagen plant in Puebla, which produced them in huge quantities until 2003.

In addition, American muscle cars are found here and there in Mexico, a reflection of its proximity to the United States.

They're all old and beat-up, true (though I did see a brand-new '70 Chevrolet Chevelle once), but looking at these cars makes your soul happy. Unlike today's soulless junk.

Guadalajara is interesting for its proximity to blue agave fields and tequila production.

Tequila isn't just Mexico's pride and joy, it's also a significant source of income for the country. True tequila can only be produced in Mexico and only in certain regions (just like cognac or champagne in France).

Agave is even planted here in the city, just for beauty:
