Disneyland in California and the Eiffel Tower have been named the most popular attractions among Instagram users, according to TravelBird.
Experts from the American branch of the well-known Dutch travel website TravelBird calculated The number of photos of world landmarks posted on Instagram. Disneyland in California is undisputedly popular among those who like to share their impressions online. More than 14.6 million photos featuring it have been posted on the social network and tagged with the relevant hashtag. The Eiffel Tower in Paris has half as many photos. However, this was enough to take second place in the ranking.
The top ten most popular attractions also included Walt Disney World and South Beach in Florida, the Berlin Wall in Berlin, the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, Big Ben in London, Times Square in New York, and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Photos of the Oktoberfest beer festival in Bavaria, Germany, rounded out the top ten.
A Russian landmark also made it into the top 100. The Peterhof Palace and Park Complex in St. Petersburg ranked 47th with over 440,000 Instagram posts. The Roman Colosseum ranked 17th with over 1.7 million posts, the Egyptian pyramids ranked 28th, and the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona ranked 29th.
Interestingly, no other Russian attractions made it into TravelBird's ranking. This is in contrast to a study conducted by OneTwoTrip in late 2017. According to the data, over 1.6 million people mentioned Red Square in Moscow on Instagram. Another 1.3 million posted photos with the Moscow Kremlin hashtag.
