Vietnam sinks under tropical depression

Heavy rains have caused flooding in central Vietnam. The Russian Foreign Ministry's Crisis Management Center is warning tourists of the danger.

Hao Binh Province was hit hardest by the disaster. Flooding was also reported in Nghe An, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa, and Hoa Binh provinces. More than 1,200 homes, roads, and power lines were destroyed in central Vietnam. Rail service between the north and south of the country was disrupted. The Disaster Management Authority has confirmed 37 deaths and 40 missing.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is warning Russian tourists about the dangers posed by the elements. Popular Vietnamese resorts such as Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Phan Thiet are expected to experience rainy weather, with occasional thunderstorms, in the coming days.

Flooding is also expected in Thailand. There is a risk of flooding in the near future in provinces adjacent to Bangkok. However, according to local media, the capital itself is not in danger.

Previously, heavy rainfall was expected in Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and other provinces. Forecasters advised residents and tourists to take precautions and avoid boat trips. Inclement weather in Thailand is expected to continue through the end of the week.
