Today is World Tourism Day

Tourism Day is celebrated all over the world on September 27. TURIZM.RU congratulates all lovers of travel, hiking and those who prefer to spend their vacation away from home.

Every year, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) chooses a slogan to celebrate Tourism Day. In 2018, year it sounds like "Tourism: Digital Transformation". On this date, the organization's experts ask to pay attention to the importance of digital technologies in tourism, providing opportunities for innovation and preparing the tourism sector for the future.

Traditionally, on Tourism Day, various festive events, festivals, flash mobs and actions dedicated to the memorable date are held around the world. In many cities, including Russian ones, museums and cultural institutions organize free excursions. For example, in St. Petersburg, tourists will be taken along six routes.

On September 27, Muscovites and city guests are invited to a free ecological and historical excursion "Streets of Moscow" at the Vorobyovy Gory eco-center, as well as special quests in the Bitsevsky forest. In Smolensk, a festive photo shoot in pajamas will take place on this day against the backdrop of famous city landmarks. In Kirov, city museums will allow visitors free of charge over the next two days.

Special events in honor of World Tourism Day will also be held in other countries of the world. For example, a special ceremony to welcome tourists who arrive in Azerbaijan has been organized at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. They are presented with gifts in the form of national sweets. In Paris, everyone is invited to a traditional tourism fair. In Budapest, an official celebration of World Tourism Day will be held. More than 40 educational and entertainment programs will be held in museums, galleries and historical buildings of the city.

World Tourism Day has been celebrated since 1979 all over the world. In Russia, the holiday came only in 1983.
