All of South America will become visa-free for Russians. Suriname and Russia have signed a visa-free agreement, Interfax reported, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry press service.
Within the framework of the UN General Assembly, the foreign policy ministries of Russia and the South American state The Republic of Suriname signed an agreement to waive visa formalities for mutual travel between their citizens, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry press service.
This agreement provides for visa-free entry for short-term visits. There is no information on how long Russians will be able to stay visa-free in Suriname. Currently, the republic is the only country in South America where Russian tourists require a visa.
Suriname is located in the northeast of the South American continent and borders the Atlantic Ocean. Until 1975, the republic was a Dutch colony. Of greatest interest to tourists is its capital, Paramaribo, with its architecture in the traditional Dutch style. Every year, the Surifesta festival is held there, specifically designed to attract tourists. According to Russian tour operators, a visit to Suriname is best combined with visits to other countries, such as Brazil or Guyana. There are no direct flights from Russia to Suriname. The easiest way to get there from Moscow is with a transfer in Amsterdam.
