A German tourist was arrested at Bangkok airport for joking about a bomb on board an airliner. 70-year-old Ernst Günther Wald now faces up to five years in prison or a $6,000 fine.
According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the passenger didn't even mention the word "bomb." He gestured to the flight attendants to remain calm, then pointed toward the baggage compartment and said, "Boom." This was enough to spark panic on board.
Wald was escorted off the plane and handed over to police. Passengers were evacuated, and their luggage was unloaded and inspected for several hours, searching for an explosive device. The German tourist claimed he was drunk and wanted to make a joke.
